Textbook Assignment Guidelines

Each student will be assigned textbooks according to the curricular needs required by their teachers. Some textbooks will be required for the entire school year and others will be loaned to students for a short time. Teachers will arrange a period during the school day to bring the students to the library to sign these items out. Students must have their agenda with their current barcode intact or their student ID card with barcode to sign out items from the library.

All textbooks are barcoded and scanned into individual student accounts with the library. Each student must return the exact copy that was signed out to them. It is recommended that students inspect each textbook when assigned and make note of any previous damages. Any concerns should be brought to the librarian immediately. As well, students should record the barcode numbers of their individual textbooks in their agenda in order to personally keep track of their own items. Students are advised to keep their textbooks locked up in their lockers, except when needed in class or at home, to prevent loss or damage. Covering textbooks with paper or purchased stretch fabric covers is acceptable so long as nothing is glued or taped directly to the textbook itself.

In consideration of the fact that there are no caution fees charged for textbooks at Manachaban, all returned textbooks will be inspected for damages. A minimum fee of $15.00 will be charged for problems including graffiti, spills of any liquids, torn pages and cover or spine damage. In cases where the textbook is damaged to the point that it cannot be loaned out to another student, replacement cost will be charged. Should students encounter a problem during the school year with a textbook (pages coming loose from the spine, etc) or lose a textbook, they should contact the Librarian, Mrs. Naidu, immediately for a replacement. Loss will require payment of replacement cost before a new one is issued.
