November 15 update

Last week we had the court cases for the Black Plague.  I was so impressed with all of your children!  They did such a fantastic job preparing for the court case – writing their opening and closing statements as well as their questions and arguments cue cards.  Most of them were so well prepared – came with costumes to dress the part – it was fantastic!  I know they learned a lot about the Black Plague as well as the middle ages doing this assignment!  Ensure you check their marks and comments on power school (the comments are the little blue “bubble” you see – click on this and you should see my comments).  Thank you for your help and support …. I know some students stayed up very late preparing for this court case assignment – their preparation and organization was obvious.

Here is what is coming up:

Math: We are still working on “percent” – we are at the end of the unit – the students were given a worksheet today on “calculatoring percents” and “discounts”.  This worksheet is due tomorrow.  I have many extra worksheets on google classroom – only a few do I assign and will check for completion but I highly recommend students do as many of these “extra” worksheets as possible – “practice promotes perfection”

We will have a quiz tomorrow on how to calculate the percent of a number

Unit Test next Wednesday November 22.

Social/La: Students are working on their persuasive essay for the Black Plague.  They have been given a graphic organizer and I encouraged them to use the colour-coded paragraph organizer they used in grade 7.  Right now students should have their graphic organizer complete (basically the  template of their essay) and they should have their “lead” or introductory paragraph written. Ask them to read to you their introductory paragraph.

The draft of the essay should be done by Friday so we can read each others work and do some peer editing.  Have a look at google classroom – social – Black Palgue on Trial written assignment – there you will find the assignment outline, rubric as well as many writing resources.

LA: Read Read Read #1 due this Friday

Science: We are finishing our “Mix and Flow of Matter” unit – today students are working on questions about Density.  These questions (page 58 #1-4) are due tomorrow.

Please don’t forget to check powerschool to ensure your child is caught up with all work and assignments.
